Adam: Reality catches up with “Freedom Convoy” protesters
If Ottawa residents were relieved after the proposed trucker protest reunion was moved by organizers to Winnipeg, they must be over the moon in the wake of reports suggesting the entire enterprise may be collapsing.
Earlier in the fall, Canada Unity, the group behind the reunion, said convoy protesters would gather outside Ottawa and then proceed to Parliament Hill next month for speeches and candlelight vigil, prompting Ottawa police to draw up plans to prevent another potential blockade. With police warning that trucks would not be allowed downtown and any disturbances would be firmly dealt with, the organizers decided to move the protest to Winnipeg.
Now, following infighting in the ranks of the convoy protesters, key organizer James Bauder said on social media that the protest has been cancelled. Or perhaps it isn’t. While Bauder has called off the Winnipeg reunion, another group led by conspiracy theorist Ron Clark is pressing ahead with the event.
