Amanda Zhao killer now living in New Zealand and claims she is still alive
Vancouver MP Jenny Kwan says the man who murdered Amanda Zhao and dumped her body in a suitcase near Mission more than 20 years ago is attempting to live in New Zealand as a refugee.
Last Friday, Kwan — the MP for Vancouver East — sent a letter to four federal ministers saying she had been contacted by Zhao’s mother and notified that Ang Li (also known by several aliases) had sought refugee status in New Zealand, been rejected, and was now appealing that order.
Kwan asked the ministers to contact the Government of New Zealand and its appeal division for their immigration department and pass on any “pertinent factual information pertaining to issues of criminality for Li.”
“This is particularly important given the blatantly false claim that he has made about the current state of Amanda,” Kwan wrote.
According to a recent article published in the New Zealand Herald (Auckland’s daily newspaper), Li arrived in New Zealand five years ago following his release from a Chinese jail where he had served seven years for Zhao’s death.
