Janis Hughes was sunk in front of her large-screen television, watching Netflix, trying to zone out and forget about her day. And the day before. And the day before that. Not easy to do when you know you are dying.
“I became very anxious,” said Hughes, 66.
The professional translator, who had filled her free time with knitting and nature photography, couldn’t even enjoy a dream-fulfilling trip to Tofino, arranged by her family.
“All I could think was, ‘I’m dying, I’m dying, I’m dying,’” she said. “The emotional and spiritual distress just colours everything. With everything you do, you are asking yourself is this the last time?”
