Boyfriend charged with manslaughter in death of Nanaimo woman, 26

The former boyfriend of a 26-year-old Nanaimo woman who went missing in 2021 has been charged with manslaughter in her death.

Amy Watts was reported missing by her family on May 27, 2021. Her body was found in a small wooded ravine in downtown Nanaimo a week later.

An 18-month investigation by Nanaimo RCMP’s serious crime unit has resulted in a charge against 38-year-old Kyle Gordon Ordway. It was approved by Crown prosecutors on Monday.

Watts had moved from Prince Edward Island to Vancouver Island several years before her death, and was in a relationship with Ordway until her disappearance, said Nanaimo RCMP in a new release.

Ordway is in custody on an unrelated matter. His next court appearance hasn’t been scheduled.
