Coquitlam school district in battle with teacher aide over her adults-only porn site
Employers can restrict their employees social media activities outside of work if they find grounds that it is harming their reputation, says a University of B.C. labour expert.
Supriya Routh weighed in Thursday on the case of Kristin MacDonald, a Coquitlam educational assistant who is fighting the school district who threatened to fire her if she doesn’t shut down her online accounts, including her OnlyFans account and social media.
The 35-year-old single mother says she needs the side gig of OnlyFans to make ends meet. The part-time position at Terry Fox Secondary pays less than $50,000 annually.
MacDonald — who is on disability due to spinal surgery — began selling custom pornography to paid subscribers on the 18+ platform in July.
“If I was paid like a living wage, I truly believe I would have never gone to OnlyFans,” MacDonald said. “My colleagues and I are educated. We do tube feedings, blood sugar testing and all sorts of other things to support students with special needs, but we’re having to work two to three jobs to cover rent.”
