Ex-Canucks coach Marc Crawford in hot water over alleged use of homophobic slur

Former Vancouver Canucks head coach and player Marc Crawford is in trouble with Swiss hockey officials after he is alleged to have directed a homophobic slur towards an official during a game in Zurich on Saturday.

Late in Wednesday’s home game for the Lions vs. Biel at Swiss Life Arena in Zurich, with his team trailing by a goal Crawford grew incensed with the game’s referee Mikko Kaukokari, screaming at him to check the clock, cursing and then apparently calling him a “c***sucker.”

Crawford’s comment was clearly audible on the TV broadcast. Swiss National League CEO Denis Vaucher told Swiss news outlet Blick he was watching the game on TV and plainly heard what Crawford said.

“Marc Crawford crossed a red line with these discriminatory remarks,” he told Blick.

Vaucher has ordered an investigation he said.
