Free transit on New Year’s Eve in 2022, says TransLink
With large-scale New Year’s Eve events back across Metro Vancouver, TransLink is once again offering free transit for all who decide to celebrate.
The tradition of free rides was suspended in the first year of the pandemic and returned in a limited way in 2021, but expanded service is planned in 2022 with plenty of parties and public events on the menu.
Buses, SkyTrain and SeaBus will all be free from 5 p.m. on New Year’s Eve until 5 a.m. on Jan. 1, 2023. Some services will end before 5 a.m., however, so consult schedules before planning your outing.
After 5 p.m., fare gates at Skytrain stations will be open and customers don’t have to tap Compass Cards or make any other form of payment to ride trains, and buses will offer extra service on some routes. If you start a trip before 5 p.m., remember to tap out so you’re charged accordingly.
Buses, SkyTrain and SeaBus will operate on a typical Saturday schedule, augmented by 30 extra buses for extra trips on select routes and with extended hours.
