‘Hogwarts Legacy’ game has earned $850 million in sales so far despite calls to ban it
Warner Bros. Discovery’s much anticipated role-playing game, Hogwarts Legacy — the latest addition to J.K. Rowling’s Wizarding World franchise — garnered immense success following its launch despite the controversy surrounding the author.
Hogwarts Legacy has already sold 12 million games, totalling US$850 million in sales, since its release on Feb. 10, making it the biggest global launch ever for Warner Bros. Games, the media giant announced. The game also broke company records for player engagement with 280 million hours played to date.
“We are so thrilled and proud to see the player response to Hogwarts Legacy from gamers, fans who are new to gaming and reviewers around the world,” said David Haddad, President, Warner Bros. Games.
Not only have there been calls to boycott the game, some had even begun boycotting Twitch, a site that allows people to watch others play video games, because it displays “Hogwarts Legacy” ads.
