Hollywood North: Burnaby’s Bron Studios files for bankruptcy
Headwinds caused by the pandemic and recent labour disruptions in the entertainment industry have claimed a Hollywood North victim.
Burnaby-based Bron Studios — the force behind critical successes such as Joker and Licorice Pizza, as well as less well-received commercial projects like the Adam Driver dinosaur film 65 and The Idol starring Canadian musician The Weeknd — filed for bankruptcy protection this week.
The Canadian financing and production company announced on Instagram Wednesday that “the Bron group of companies obtained protection from their creditors in Canada pursuant to an initial order of the Supreme Court of British Columbia under the Companies’ Creditors Arrangement Act.”
The company also filed for Chapter 15 protection, which is the process in the U.S. for starting a bankruptcy proceeding that involves business in other countries.
