Hot weather linked to string of crimes in Vancouver over the weekend
The Vancouver Police Department has issued a grim tally of crime committed during this past weekend’s hot spell.
According to VPD spokesperson Sgt. Steve Addison, between Friday and Monday there were 1,800 calls made to police for help — including 28 from the city’s beaches.
This marked the third busiest weekend of the year, after Spring Break and St. Patrick’s Day.
“Whenever we see this many people gathering outside, there’s bound to be more incidents requiring police,” Addison said.
On Friday night, a 16-year-old boy was stabbed several times at Davie and Denman Street, a 23-year-old man was pepper-sprayed at English Bay and a 19-year-old Surrey man was arrested after exposing a firearm outside the Roxy nightclub on Granville Street.
