Hotel Intel: Grand Adirondack is the ‘living room’ of Lake Placid
The new Grand Adirondack Hotel in Lake Placid, N.Y., is the reincarnation of the historic Hotel Marcy, a hospitality centrepiece of Main Street for nearly 100 years.
After a total makeover, the establishment is decked out with attractive accommodations and a next-generation vibe at the Marcy brasserie. Cloudsplitter, the only rooftop bar in Lake Placid, will open this spring with drinks, bites and inspirational views of Mirror Lake and five Olympic venues, including Whiteface Mountain.
Hotel Marcy originally hosted the intrepid sportspeople who travelled to the vast wilderness of Adirondack Park. Here, they enjoyed snow sports and world-class fishing, paddling in the clear lakes and rivers, as well as hiking up the 46 High Peaks, each more than 4,000 feet (1,219 metres).
The great outdoors remains a tremendous draw, but both Lake Placid and the renamed Grand Adirondack Hotel have evolved exponentially with culture and cuisine, while keeping their authenticity, folksy charm and sense of community.
