Man fatally shot in Whalley Sunday identified by homicide investigators

Homicide investigators have identified the victim of Surrey’s latest homicide.

Pavanbar Paul Mannan, 29, was shot inside a Ford Edge SUV in an alleyway north of 96 Avenue, near 130 Street in the Whalley neighbourhood on Sunday afternoon, said the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team on Tuesday.

Paramedics tried to revive Mannan, but the Surrey resident died at the scene.

Mannan was known to police, said IHIT spokesman Sgt. Timonthy Pierotti, and investigators are still trying to determine the motive behind the shooting and whether it is linked to B.C’s gang war.

“It’s too early at this point to say one way or the other,” said Pierotti, adding IHIT is working with B.C.’s anti-gang force, the Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit, to see if the homicide is gang-related.
