Man suffers serious injuries in Parksville police incident
Police in Parksville called the Independent Investigations Office of B.C. late last week after a man who had been arrested a couple of days earlier turned out to have suffered serious injuries.
The IIO said it was notified on July 20 and must determine whether police actions contributed to the man’s injuries.
RCMP said the man was arrested after officers responded to a disturbance in the 100-block of Island Highway West on July 18. He was taken to cells at the Oceanside detachment in Parksville.
“When the man was being released the following morning (July 19), it is reported that officers noted he appeared unwell and contacted Emergency Health Services,” said the IIO in a release on Friday.
At the hospital, the man was found to have suffered a serious injury, and the IIO was notified the next day when “police became aware of the seriousness of the man’s condition.”
