Manslaughter charges laid against two Prince George Mounties

Nearly six years after Dale Culver died in police custody, five Prince George RCMP officers have been charged in relation to the Indigenous man’s death.

Charges of manslaughter were approved against Const. Paul Ste-Marie and Const. Jean Francois Monette on Wednesday in Prince George Provincial Court, announced the B.C. Prosecution Service on Wednesday.

Three other Mounties — Const. Arthur Dalman, Const. Clarence (Alex) Alexander MacDonald and Sgt. Bayani (Jon) Eusebio Cruz — were charged with attempting to obstruct justice.

The officers are scheduled to make their first appearance in Prince George Provincial Court on March 14.

Culver, 35 and a member of the Gitxsan and Wet’suwet’en Nations, was arrested in Prince George on July 18, 2017.
