One person dies in mountain biking accident during race at B.C.’s Big White Ski Resort
One person has died during a weekend downhill mountain biking race at Big White Ski Resort.
Kelowna RCMP haven’t released a statement, but have confirmed with Postmedia News that the coroner is investigating after an incident involving a competitor in the B.C. Cup.
“Someone did succumb to their injuries during a mountain bike crash this past weekend at Big White. As the incident is not criminal in nature, we’re diverting all requests to the B.C. Coroner’s Service,” said RCMP Corp. Michael Gauthier, in an email Tuesday afternoon.
Ryan Panton, a spokesman for the B.C. Coroners Service, said they will not be releasing any details about the person who died due to privacy concerns. A coroner’s report is expected but that will likely take several months.
Micheal Ballingall, senior vice-president of Big White Ski Resort, also confirmed that there was a serious accident during the Cup, which ran Friday through Sunday.
