Ontario mansion linked to alleged human smuggling conspiracy
A Windsor waterfront mansion once put on the market as the city’s most expensive residential real estate listing is at the heart of an alien smuggling conspiracy alleged by American authorities.
In a criminal complaint unsealed by a judge in Detroit on Monday, the U.S Department of Homeland Security identifies the luxury Windsor property as the departure point for a boat carrying suspected foreign nationals who were then dropped off on the Detroit side last April.
According to court documents, a concerned citizen, watching the group disembark at Sindbad’s Restaurant & Marina north of Belle Isle in the early evening of April 12, 2022, grew suspicious and alerted the U.S. Border Patrol. The twin-engined, three-pontoon vessel was gone when an agent arrived but the captain of a fishing charter boat at the marina said he had spoken with the operator, who, he claimed, told him he let the passengers off “so they could get something to eat.”
