Osoyoos wildfire: Evacuation order issued for more than 700 properties

An evacuation order was issued late Saturday by the Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen and Town of Osoyoos for more than 700 properties due to the Lone Pine Creek wildfire.

The order covers the area north of the Canada/U.S. border to the intersection of Highway 97 and Highway 3, west and north along Highway 3.

The order said that members of the RCMP and other agencies will be expediting the evacuation.

The fire was burning approximately 5 km southwest of Osoyoos early on Saturday evening on the south side of the Canada-U. S. border, prompting an evacuation alert. That became an order around 10 p.m. Residents have noted on social media how fast the fire seems to be moving.
