Police arrest knife-wielding woman after ‘terrifying’ breach of B.C. Women’s Hospital nursery
Vancouver police defused a “terrifying” intrusion of B.C. Women’s Hospital on Thursday morning as a knife-wielding woman tried to break into a room with newborn babies inside.
Police say several people, including staff and a social worker, called 911 from the hospital reporting that a woman armed with a knife “was screaming and threatening staff, and was trying to break into a locked nursery.”
In messages posted to a VPD social media site, police say the woman was “in close proximity to staff, babies and at least one other pregnant woman.
“The staff asked VPD officers to respond ‘ASAP,’ reporting that she was uncontrollable and violent, and had chased a doctor, who ran to a place of safety.”
Police say staff had to barricade themselves “in a room with babies as the woman walked around the ward with a weapon. It was also reported that she was trying to break into the nursery with a knife, and that she had lunged at a staff member with a weapon in her hand.
