Sale of prime land will eventually close Burnaby’s Brentwood Lanes, bring condos

The bowling alley long known as Brentwood Lanes in Burnaby will keep running for some time. But it sits on 4.3 acres of prime land off of the Lougheed Highway that has been sold to a developer with plans to rezone it for condo towers.

“Last year, our property taxes were over $800,000 and as well, the previous year, so no matter how hard we try, we can’t make a go of it because we lose money each and every year,” said Rob Taylor, vice-president of the Revs Entertainment Group.

Revs bought Brentwood Lanes in the late 1990s and kept its 40,000-square-foot complex running, which has been in that location since the early 1960s.

“There are people who have been bowling in leagues here for decades,” said Taylor.

With space to accommodate 300 people, the location has been a good one for larger special events, he said.
