Surrey homicide victim identified as Aren Alexander Smith

Homicide detectives have identified the man shot to death two weeks ago in Surrey as 38-year-old Aren Alexander Smith.

On March 13, shortly before 8 p.m., the Surrey RCMP responded to a report of shots fired in the area of the 2300-block of 167A Street, according to the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team.

When Surrey officers arrived on scene they found Smith in a parked vehicle. He was dead from gun shot wounds.

IHIT said Thursday that Smith is unknown to police and has no known ties to the ongoing Lower Mainland gang conflict.  Smith and his family had recently moved to Surrey.

Investigators learned the suspect left the area in a white Penske Ford Transit van shortly after the shooting.
