Three boats destroyed by fire at Granville Island marina

Three boats caught fire and were heavily damaged while moored at the marina on Granville Island in the early morning hours Sunday.

Vancouver police spokesperson Const. Tania Visintin said fire investigators are looking into the cause of the False Creek fire but it appears it may have been “deliberately set.”

Vancouver Fire Rescue Services “extinguished the fire earlier this morning, but approximately $5 million to $10 million worth of damage had been caused to the vessels,” said Visintin.

Police are waiting for confirmation from a fire service investigator about whether it was an arson.

Vancouver Fire Chief Karen Fry confirmed the fire on social media early Sunday and said two of the service’s fire boats helped put out the blaze before it spread to other vessels at the marina.
