TransLink introduces debit pay for rides across transit system

TransLink customers can now pay with their debit card.

The transit system has upgraded its Compass card readers to add contactless Interac debit capability, making it easier and more convenient for customers.

TransLink is the first in Canada to fully integrate debit payments into its entire transit system. Both physical debit cards and smartphone digital wallets are supported.

“We’re focused on making transit more convenient for customers and this upgrade will particularly benefit those who may not have easy access to a credit card,” CEO Kevin Quinn said in a statement.

A recent Canada-wide survey found two-thirds of respondent said debit was a convenient option to pay for transit, and nearly 70 per cent thought it would make it easier for visitors compared to tickets, tokens or transit passes.
