Vancouver to allow drinking in public plazas year-round
People can now drink year-round in half a dozen public plazas around Vancouver.
The city voted this week to expand its public plaza program after three successful summer seasons.
Six plazas will go to year-round in 2023-24 — two each along Cambie and Granville, one on West Hastings and one on Main Street in the Little Mountain neighbourhood. Another on 4th Avenue in Kitsilano will operate in spring and summer only.
“Time and time again, we have seen that Vancouverites can be trusted to safely and responsibly enjoy alcoholic drinks in shared public spaces,” said Mayor Ken Sim.
“Community connection and spaces for public life are so important for our wellbeing and quality of life. Having plazas that allow alcohol consumption year-round will help make our city more vibrant while supporting local businesses.”
