Weather alert: Windstorm coming late Sunday, picking up intensity on Monday
A weather system moving into the B.C. south coast late Sunday will bring strong winds that will intensify heading into Monday, says Environment Canada.
A special weather statement has been issued for Greater Victoria and all of Metro Vancouver from the North Shore to Surrey and Langley, especially areas near the Strait of Georgia and Juan de Fuca Strait.
The western part of Metro Vancouver could see northwest winds of 70 kilometre an hour with gusts to 90 km/h.
Near the Strait of Georgia, the intensity is expected to be 50 km/h gusting to 70 km/h. Over Juan de Fuca Strait, westerly winds are expected at 70 km/h gusting to 90 km/h.
“Damage to buildings, such as to roof shingles and windows, may occur,” said the weather statement. “High winds may result in power outages and fallen tree branches.”
