Wife of doctor who plunged Tesla off highway with family in it doesn’t want him prosecuted
The wife of the California doctor accused of intentionally driving his Tesla off a cliff with her and their two children aboard is asking that he not be prosecuted, according to reports.
Dharmesh Patel, 41, pleaded not guilty last week to three counts of attempted murder and two enhancements — for the injuries his wife, Neha, 41, and seven-year-old daughter suffered.
Still, it was a surprise when Neha told the court, through defence attorney Josh Bentley, that she didn’t want him charged, KNTV reported. That’s even though she allegedly yelled to first responders that he had tried to kill them on purpose.
Prosecutors believe they have enough evidence to prosecute anyway and noted often in domestic violence cases victims do not want to cooperate.
Police have said it was a “miracle” that the family survived the fall during the alleged attempted murder-suicide on the notorious stretch of the Pacific Coast Highway known as the Devil’s Slide on Jan. 2.
