When: Oct. 1-11

Where: Theatres and online

Making its world premiere at VIFF on Oct. 2 (another showing on Oct. 3) is The Last Tourist. The 90-minute film from director Tyson Sadler shines a light on the dark side of international travel.

“It’s valuable to include these at VIFF and more broadly in our discourse, because documentaries that centre on narratives of social justice are invitations to see our blind spots and learn from them,” said VIFF programmer and MODES curator Tammy Bannister. “New perspectives inspire us to act through times of uncertainty, perhaps even unpack or dismantle outdated or harmful practices. At their best, documentaries that centre on justice-based actions are a collective form of therapy, allowing us the space to process our role in the bigger picture.”
